This time it’s Hillary in defense of recent attacks on her husband.
“I’m certain that if my husband and his national security team had been shown a classified report entitled `Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside United States,’ he would have taken it more seriously than history suggests it was taken by our current president and his national security team,†Hillary Clinton said.
Noel Sheppard over at AT does a great job of ripping apart her claim of ignorance regarding impending terrorist attacks accusing her of “selective amnesia.” The classified report she is referring to is a Presidential Daily Brief given to Bush shortly before 9/11 that warned of coming attacks involving hijackings. But it was not the original brief on bin Laden, it was an update to an earlier brief handed to President Clinton over two years earlier. It would seem that both administrations failed to heed repeated warnings from the intelligence community on the plans of bin Laden. But here’s the kicker: sixteen days after Clinton was briefed on bin Laden’s intentions, the CIA had OBL’s location pinpointed yet Clinton refused to authorize a strike. Bush’s update included no such information. Our chance to take out the beast had been squandered, the window had closed without any action.
How Hillary can deny, with a straight face, that her husband was not warned of the coming attacks says much about her character or lack thereof. Such statements dishonor her fallen countrymen. I have to agree with Noel’s closing:
What this rather convincingly proves is that despite protestations to the contrary, the Clinton administration was more concerned with the politics of the Middle East than in preventing the loss of American lives. And, both he and his wife today are shamefully more interested in protecting his legacy and her political future than being honest with the American people about national security issues.
