Digs

I hear several of you have been wondering what I’ve been up to lately. It’s been a while. I tried to get the Boss to extend the wireless network out to the “heat shelter” but for some reason he wouldn’t let me take the laptop “underground”. For those of you unaware of the bizarre weather we’ve suffered down south this summer let me tell you “hot” doesn’t do it justice. There were several weeks in a row where human activity in the back forty was scarce. I even saw the man mowing in the dark!

With all that heat and no rain, me and the boys decided to renovate our summer residence, enlarging it somewhat, adding ventilation, etc. Here’s a virtual tour:

Turret guarding the southern approach, notice the clever use of spare drainage pipe to hide the occupant.

Pit #1 is in the foreground. If you look closely at the back you can see how we left a mound between Pit #1 and the far living quarters. We simply walk between the floor joists and then drop down into the great room. No human has ever made it that far!

Another view of Pit #1.

100_0739.JPG
Pit #2, a little more protected than Pit #1.

Western observation port (also serves as cross-ventilation).

100_0738.JPG
Eastern observation ports.

100_0731.JPG
Western escape route. Constant use and frequent urination keep the bushes in check.

That’s the tour! Now, wanna see me make him dance?

Moose, it’s great to hear you and the guys survived the heat wave of ’07 in one piece!

Your posts have been greatly missed, but it looks as if you’ve all been busy in the pits. Hope to hear of your latest hunting adventures in the near future.

Veritas et Fidelis Semper

P.S. That yoke must make it pretty uncomfortable for excavating the pits.
