And so the great experiment begins. The Democrats are in command – so much for checks and balances. One of the least experienced Presidents in history gets set to lead us out of the mess we’re in. Watching O’s victory speech as the band played on in the bar we were holed up in I was surprised to see the word “slavery” scroll across the screen (subtitles – sound was off), after all this race wasn’t supposed to be about race. Jackson, Sharpton, and the gang were all there just in case anyone missed the point.
The moment is over, although I suppose the inauguration will be more of the same – time to start ramping up for all this change and hype hope. Exactly what changes are coming? I can’t remember specifics although as a white middle-class fiscally responsible individual I suspect that my change will be an increased share of the burden created by others.
In all seriousness, I hope and pray that I am dead wrong. That Obama and his party will do great things to advance this nation but I fear a train-wreck is in our future.
On the bright side, the season of endless political attack ads is finally over. Maybe, just maybe, our incoming crop of politicians will start with campaign finance reform so that the most powerful position in the world can’t be bought. Again.
