Return to Makin Island

by Steve on May 27, 2009

This repatriation took place ten years ago but still needs to be shared. It’s a tale of honor and commitment set in a beautifully crafted tribute. If you don’t get chills you better check your pulse. This clip is a trailer from Pat Mendoza’s hour-long video detailing the story of 19 Marines KIA back in WWII, laid to rest by the islanders, and finally brought home to Arlington. (Tech tip: pause the video to let it load before you watch it otherwise it will stop periodically to wait on more material.)

H/T to my friend Bill for sharing. I wish I had received it in time for Memorial Day!

Had never heard about this before. What a story! Now I want to see the whole program.

Thanks for posting that.
