The head of Homeland Security is saying “the system” worked in that Abdulmutallab’s attempt to bring down Delta flight 253 failed. Apparently the only thing that kept the terrorist from achieving his goal was his own ineptness. He never should have been allowed to board that plane.
“On the one hand, it seems he’s been on the terror watch list but not on the no-fly list,” he said. “That doesn’t square because the American Department for Homeland Security has pretty stringent data-mining capability. I don’t understand how he had a valid visa if he was known on the terror watch list.
I would like to ask my government the same question. If you’re going to let individuals on the terror watch list board my plane I think I have a right to know who they are so I can engage in a little profiling and decide if I want to seek alternate transportation. We knew who this guy was, his own father identified him as a risk, and yet we let him get on a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit.
A source said Dr Mutallab was “devastated” at the news but also “surprised” his son had been allowed to travel after he had reported him to the authorities.
Based on the interviews she’s been giving, DHS Director Napolitano seems to firmly believe there is no problem. That’s a problem. Sack her.
