Road Warrior

by Steve on September 25, 2011

It’s been a long weekend so far. Having left the land of perpetual humid heat (although I hear it’s now below 60!) and red clay, climbed over the appalachians dragging an 18′ trailer, I gave up the road at Mecca north (LL Bean) after safely crossing the Maine border a ways back.

The last time I made this trek Moose was all legs at 8 months. He absolutely loved it up here. Heaven for a lab: cool temps, a lake right out the door, bullfrogs to harass, and the Northwoods with all her sights, smells, and sounds.

He’s headed back, his ashes destined for a special spot in the woods behind the camp. The boys on a road trip. Sleeping in the truck in the RV lot down the hill from Bean’s. Not the way it should have been. It’s still raw almost a year later.

Living the journey. No hurry to be anywhere particular. The kind of trip where there are no wrong turns. Things to be done at the camp, canoe lumber to acquire, friends to visit, and simply enjoying being. Deep huh? Inspiration from sleeping in the truck 😉

Sorry it is a sad occasion for you, but is certainly beautiful there. We were in Portland 6 weeks ago with our 9 year old and we’re all talking about when we can go back!

I knew that was where you would stop. Please sit on my rock for me.
